Lakeside View - Oil on Wood Panel 6x6

Jacob van Ruisdael, arguably the greatest landscape painter ever, did not go out in the field to find his painting subject, or so they say. He must have done some out door sketching just to keep from going dry and repeating himself endlessly. Whatever the truth is he left behind some 700 landscapes done entirely in his studio and out of his imagination. I'll be the first to admit to not being a new Ruisdael and probably one reason is that I must at least base it on a sketch of some sort done on the spot. This painting is one of an endless amount of sketchingI did while living on the lake. Some of them are just a few feet apart.
