The history of donuts is disputed. According to some historians there was a sea captain who got tired of his wifes pastries being raw in the center so one day he punched out the raw middle, on, of all things, his steering wheel. When he went back home he demonstrated the hole making process to his wife, thus ending forever the raw-in-the-middle pastry problem.There have been some amusing variations reported about this home demonstration on donut-hole making by the Captain for his wife.
